Faschnaut day is one of my favorite days of the year. I grew up in the Reading, PA area. I'm Pennsylvania Dutch (not Amish). I remember my grandmother ordering her Faschnauts from the bakery weeks in advance and our excitement about getting them in school. They are a potato based donut usually plan or covered in sugar. Even though I now live in Brooklyn, NY, my son and I make Faschnauts every year. Keeping the tradition alive!
I grew up Amish and never heard of Faschnaut Day until today. Exactly what is it supposed to be?
ReplyDeleteNever heard of them until today but Fat Tuesday is a holiday I can sink my teeth into! ha ha Thanks for the info!

ReplyDeleteIt's also called donut day, the Tuesday before Lent is the last day to indulge in fattening food before Lent.
